Preventative Dentistry

Preventative Dentistry is the practice of caring for your teeth and mouth and keeping them healthy. It starts at home with good oral hygiene. The American Dental Association recommends:
-Regular brushing – At least twice a day, and directly after meals if possible.
-Regular flossing – At least once a day.
-Rinsing with anti-bacterial mouthwash
We also highly recommend that checkup visits and hygiene appointments occur at least twice a year. Our friendly hygienists will remove debris, bacteria, plaque and tartar from your teeth. A comprehensive exam will be completed, which includes inspection of the teeth and mouth, X-rays, and oral cancer screening. Our caring dentists will then discuss the results with you and answer any questions you have regarding your dental health.
We are a dentist office that offers high-quality, professional dental care in a caring environment. Has it been a while since you’ve had a checkup? Contact us today to make an appointment. We look forward to serving you!

Restorative Dentistry

A crown is a covering encasing the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens teeth that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. There are several types of crowns for different needs. All-porcelain crowns such as Zirconia and E-max are excellent choices as they provide a natural appearance and feel. In particular, E-max crowns blend really well with your own natural teeth to provide a beautiful smile, and are considered the top of line choice for crowns.

Reasons for Crowns:
• Restoring decayed, broken or fractured teeth
• Fractured fillings
• Large Fillings
• Root Canal tooth
• Cosmetic Enhancement

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removal) appliance that replaces missing teeth. When a tooth is missing, nearby teeth may shift to fill the empty space. In addition, the teeth in the opposite jaw may also shift toward the empty space. A bridge fills the empty space and helps prevent the shifting of teeth. As there are several types of bridges, on your first visit, the best option for each patient will be discussed. The traditional and most popular type is made of porcelain and fused into metal. Dental bridges are highly durable and can last many years

Implants are titanium posts that functions as a root of a tooth. An implant creates a foundation for an artificial tooth that matches the rest of your teeth. This treatment provides a durable tooth replacement that look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

Why implants?
• Solution for one or more missing teeth
• Improved appearance, speech, comfort, eating, and self-esteem
• With proper care, implants can last a lifetime

Dentures are removable appliances that can effectively replace multiple missing teeth with natural looking results. Smile Dental provides services for both types of dentures – complete removable dentures and partial removable dentures. While complete dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing, partial dentures are used to fill in the spaces created by missing teeth, which prevents other teeth from shifting.

REASONS FOR DENTURES:
• Partial dentures help prevent other teeth from changing position
• Enhances smile and facial tissues
• Improves chewing, speech, and digestion

We offer a unique partial denture called Valplast®. It’s made of flexible plastic and is considered to be the most comfortable option for partial dentures. The variety of colors allows for the denture to blend in with the natural tones of the tissues of your mouth. Valplast® is a great choice for patients who desire a top of the line denture that produces the most beautiful, natural looking smile.

Implant-Supported Overdentures
Overdentures are a type of removable, replacement teeth that is supported and attached to implants, as opposed to conventional dentures that rests on the gums. Overdentures offer a number of functional and cosmetic advantages over conventional dentures. The dentures are supported by titanium posts that integrate with the bone, which slows and sometimes halts bone loss. This has the additional benefit of retaining facial features and structure. A stable and secure fit is created because the denture is supported by the implant. Not only is the fit more comfortable, but patients don’t have to worry about the implant becoming loose or falling out. Furthermore, because it is so secure, most foods can thoroughly chewed and eaten.

Root canal treatment removes the painful infection and decayed tissue at the root of a tooth caused by severe tooth decay. This is followed with the placement of dental filling to restore the root area. This procedure considerably reduces toothache pain, stops infections from spreading, and promotes healing. In addition, this procedure helps to preserve the natural tooth structure saves teeth that might otherwise have to be extracted.

Periodontal Dentistry

Periodontal dentistry prevents, diagnoses, and treats periodontal (gum) disease. Our dentists devote their time, energy, and skill to help patients care for their gums. Periodontal disease is a disease and infection in the gums that slowly damages the support of your teeth. The primary cause is bacteria which harbors in plaque. The plaque that is not removed hardens to become tartar. Plaque causes gingivitis, which is an infection and inflammation of the gums around the tooth. If left untreated, it may progress to Periodontitis which is a more serious infection of the ligament and bone surround the root of a tooth. This may lead to tooth loss and is associated with other health complications such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Signs and symptoms of Periodontal disease include:
-swollen, red, or tender gums
-bleeding gums during and after brushing
-constant bad breath or bad taste
-receding gums
-formation of deep pockets between gums and teeth
-shifting or loose teeth
-changes in your bite
-changes in the way your partial dentures fit

At Smile Dental, we provide treatment services in order to prevent and combat periodontal disease.
-Deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) – removes tartar from above and under the gum line
-Lasers may be used to control bacteria growth.
-Medications – the placement of antibiotics such as Arrestin and Atridox prevent the growth of bacteria

Oral Surgery

An extraction is an oral surgery treatment to remove a tooth and it may be necessary for several reasons. An extraction may be needed if a tooth is beyond the point of repair due to decay or damage.
Wisdom Teeth extractions are one of the more common oral surgeries. Wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to grow. If they align correctly and the gum tissue is healthy, they may not have to be removed. However, this is not very common. In most cases, wisdom teeth fail to emerge with the correct alignment. They may grow sideways, only partially emerge, and even remain trapped under the gum.
Wisdom teeth that grow improperly can put pressure on other teeth and may affect the natural alignment. Partially erupted teeth can result in a growth in bacteria. Removing wisdom teeth can prevent these issues from developing.
